After the Mekong-river trip I took in Vietnam I felt exhilarated so when I found out that one can make a city tour with the same method I decided to give it a go. And I'm happy to say that I wasn't disappointed. :)

First I was rather sceptical about the whole thing but when we moved to smaller creeks than spun out of the main river like branches from a tree, instead of going through the grand routes and bridges, it turned out to be very fun.

I can easily say that the riversides make their own little suburban culture inside the city. Children swimming in the river in front of the houses that have stairs straight from door to water, small temples just next to water, piles and piles of charming little homes that have been built above, belove and as extensions on and to each other like Lego houses, small boats with merchants that stop other boats passing by...

This about six meters long lying Buddha could have stretch his hand and touch the water. :)

Kaiken kaikkiaan, jokikulttuuri taalla on ihan omanlaisensa, ja minusta olisi todella mahtavaa nahda jotain vastaavaa Turussa, talven tottakai huomioonottaen. :)

All in all, the river culture here is quite it own kind, and I would very much like to see something like this in Turku, of course minding the winter. :)
